The Great Greedy Gogmagog

The Great Greedy Gogmagog is a new children’s book aimed at young children. It tells the story about apple orchard owners Charles and Margery, who decide to introduce a new variety “The Great Greedy Gogmagog” to their orchard. The newcomer turns things upside down and suddenly Charles and Margery are left with an enormous apple and lots of money but also friends, who don’t feel well. They have to make an important decision about the future for their orchard.

The story is full of lovely poems and colourful drawings. In addition to the story, the book contains two worksheets about fruit –one about making an apple portrait and another one about naming and exploring fruits (both worksheets can also be downloaded from this webpage).

Fruit quiz

Test your trivia knowledge and your ability to recognise different fruits. The fruit quiz is a video, so if you need more time to think, you can pause it. All of the fruits included in the quiz can be found on the worksheet to ‘Explore the choices of fruits’. The quiz is therefore a little easier if you have this worksheet in front of you. Aimed at all age groups.

Make your own apple portrait

Invent a new fruit

How would the perfect fruit look and taste like according to you?

In the ISAFRUIT project, researchers are working to invent new fresh fruits and fruit products. If you would like to see how they are doing, you can read more and watch a video under SCIENCE in the left-hand navigation.

Be inspired or help to inspire the researchers and design your own superfruit that you think would be a bestseller if it came on the market. Should it be a huge new fruit variety like 'The Great Greedy Gogmagog' or should it be a completely new fruit that doesn't look like any of the existing ones? You can either make a drawing and/or write a poem that describes your fruit. Send it to GoFruit (m-b.andersen@warwick.ac.uk) and then we will upload it to the GoFruit blog. Please remember to put your name and age on it, unless you prefer to be anonymous. Aimed at all age groups.

Where do apples come from?

A powerpoint presentation about how apples are grown and distributed with instructions for each slide and a work sheet. Aimed at children aged 9-11
